Welcome to the Nature Macro Photography

 Online Course with Alessandro Zocchi

This is a one-on-one, four-week, online course to learn and improve your skills to take better macro and close-up pictures of nature. Wherever you are in the world all you need to take this course is an Internet access. Once enrolled you'll have access to a personal website where you can interact with me, your instructor.

The course is based on the textbook Handbook of Macro Photography, that you can get as E-Book Adobe Digital Edition through the www.lulu.com editor. The course is designed to get you in the field to take pictures for the assignments. Every week you'll receive instructions on what to study and the assignment to fulfill.

Seasonal, latitudinal and altitudinal differences are no excuse not to take good macro pictures. Subjects are everywhere, anytime and this course will guide you to get the most out of your equipment and yourself.  Dedication will pay back but you can spend as much time as you want. The important thing is to have fun, even if you are a very serious photographer. By the end of the week you are required to send me three good pictures that I'll post in an appropriate space of the lesson page. I'll comment them and suggest, if necessary, some improvements. My critiques will always be honest and supportive.

Despite the outline of the course is already defined the level of the proficiency is decided at the beginning of the course according to your preference. This will also affect the material to study and the type of assignment.

What you need to start:

A digital SLR camera with a macro lens or a lens with extension tubes or close-up lens, and a tripod. If you are unsure about the equipment you have, or you need to buy some, the first lesson is all about equipment and I can give you many advices on what to get.

Course overview:

Week One: Equipment

You will study the equipment and accessories used for macro photography and familiarize with the functions of what you have or what you just bought.

Week Two: Photographic techniques 1

In this week's session you will work on important aspects on how to use your camera gear to develop effective macro image taking.

Week Three: Photographic techniques 2

More advanced and definetly challenging techniques will be explored in this session.

Week Four: Composition

You will study and practice how to arrange the subjects inside the image through application of composition guides and concepts. This is the most  critical step to go from "taking" a simple picture to "making" an attractive picture. Equipment will not help you here. It all depends on your eye and a new ability to see.
